At the International Kidney Stone Institute, our goal is nothing less than the cure.

Sodium Content of Common Foods

Although sodium has an important role in the body, most Americans consume far more sodium than they need. For an adult, the "safe and adequate" intake level for sodium is 1,100 to 3,300 mg or 1/2 to 1 1/2 teaspoons each day. For kidney stone formers with elevated urine sodium, consuming 2,000 mg or less per day is recommended.
